Moving Again? 3 Tips for Military Families

Moving is hard, especially if your job is in the military and requires it. Having a career with the military can mean moving year after year to many different homes. Moving doesn't have to be stressful or hard. Rather, it can be exciting to get to know a new place. Here are 3 tips to help you save money and make moving a little easier for you and your family.
Check for Discounts
As you are moving, you will find that you will need to gather many different materials to help make moving easier. Things like boxes, tape, dollies, and interior packing materials all cost money. Luckily, many companies offer military discounts for items such as these. Be sure to check for discounts at every store you purchase packing materials. Even rental stores offer discounts, which many people don't think about. The best place to find military discounts for your materials list is a big box hardware store. You will find that these small discounts will cut down your moving costs by a significant chunk.

Consider a Moving Company
If you are moving across the country, or even a few states away, you will most likely have to hire a moving company. Hiring professional movers to transport your things a long distance can be expensive, and there are a lot of questions to consider when selecting a moving company to work with. Use your military advantages and search for a moving company that offers military family discounts. A difference of 10 or 15 percent off your bill will make a difference while you are moving. Every penny counts, so thankfully there are many moving companies that offer military discounts.

Get Familiar with Your New Area
If you know the city you are moving to, take time to get familiar with the area before moving. That way, when you arrive at your new home, you will not have to search through all the stores and restaurants to find what you need. An easy way to do this is to take a quick weekend trip and see the sites. Even getting familiar with the roads and the city layout will help you navigate more easily when you arrive at your new home.

Moving a family around frequently is a lot of work. Luckily, through the use of discounts, moving companies, and familiarity with your new surroundings, moving from home to home will prove to be less daunting than you thought.

My husband was asked to move to a different state again for his military duty, which is why we're currently looking for a real estate agent that may help us locate a house. Well, you made a pretty good point that it will be less hassle for us if we'll hire a professional mover that may transport our belongings. We'll also keep in mind to visit the area and tour it because this will be a great way to familiarize ourselves with the place.

My sister has been thinking about how she will need to move next month because her husband is getting transferred. She would really like to get some help from a professional in order to be more effective. I liked what you said about how she should try to find some discounts from box stores, moving companies, or someone that is familiar with the layout, and roads.
